Transit Fresh Look Study
The Transit Fresh Look is a collaboration between communities and transportation agencies that envisions the future of public transportation in southwest Salt Lake County and northwest Utah County.
Through this effort, these partnering participants assessed a variety of potential transit connections before ultimately coalescing behind a Vision Map.
Transit Fresh Look acknowledges that implementation of these Vision projects is not certain, and is dependent on subsequent steps, which include:Â
- Funding: The availability of the necessary capital for construction, and ongoing funding for operations and maintenance.
- Land use: Community development patterns that support transit ridership.
- Analysis: Detailed corridor-level analysis and station area plans, project engineering, and completion of all mandatory environmental reviews.
- Phasing: Transit enhancements in a corridor may be implemented in phases, depending on resources and feasibility.
More information can be found in the Corridor Profiles, which include corridor-specific action steps and general funding pathways for communities to consider as they continue to explore what it would take to implement these projects in partnership with transportation agencies.
The scope of the 2024-2025 Transit Fresh Look Study has concluded, but ongoing collaboration will be important to achieving the shared vision identified through this process.

Project Area & Approach
The effort utilized a process distinct from previous efforts. We went beyond the traditional criteria analyzed in transit studies and asked the question, “What would it take?” Is there political will we can gather? Are there land use levers we can modify?
We looked at various funding mechanisms besides federal funding. The Transit Fresh Look focused on major regional public transit improvements as a companion to other near-term efforts to identify ways to meet pressing transit needs in the area.

Corridor Profiles
Each corridor profile summarizes the key characteristics and role of the corridors included in the Transit Fresh Look Vision. The action items outline specific, near-term steps to help move each corridor from vision to implementation. More detailed analysis and guidance can be found in the Transit Fresh Look Action Plan.
